The Audi Q5 – one of the bestselling SUVs in the premium mid-size segment on European markets for years – now goes to the next level, combining sporty character with excellent everyday use. Outside, the sharpened exterior design of this highly successful model emphasizes the Q identity. Inside, refinement combines to progressive look and feel.
World success For over a decade, the Audi Q5 has enjoyed a strong position in the mid-sized, luxury SUV segment – and with good reason. Its perfect balance of styling, practicality and performance endeared it to customers all over the globe, with Vietnam embracing the mid-sized SUV from the outset. Globally, the first Audi Q5 sold over 1.6 million units after its stunning debut in 2009. One the most popular Q models ever continued to grow when the second generation arrived in 2017. In Vietnam too, customers appreciated the Audi Q5 from its start. Now, the new Q5 comes with sharper, more defined styling, significant new equipment and technology making this perennial favorite even more attractive.
New styling accentuates the rugged look The Audi Q5 expression of power, robustness and safety exudes its strong Q exterior identity. The Audi designers have been careful to remain true to the original design of this new Q5 while giving it a contemporary look of its own. 4.68 metres long, the redesigned Audi Q5 is now 19 millimetres longer than before, while height and width remain unchanged. The octagonal Singleframe is now shallower and wider, while the side air intakes are larger. The Matrix LED headlights now feature a distinctive new daytime running light signature and the Q5 appears more chiselled in the flanks and rear. Their intelligent, adaptable high beam offers greater safety and convenience without dazzling other road users. Viewed from the side, the Q5 now has lighter look with greater ground clearance thanks to the optimised sill insert. The rear spoiler and aluminium roof rails accentuate the sturdy look. At the rear end is a new trim element between the LED light clusters and a new diffusor insert with a horizontal fin. In addition to the standard Q5, the Q5 S line features a sporty honeycomb in the Singleframe and a chrome strip framing the rear diffusor.
Thanks to its intelligent material mix, the Q5 has one of the lightest body shells in the segment, while the cd figure of 0.30 is among the best-in-class. Refined aero-acoustics make for an exceptionally quiet interior. While the Audi Q5 runs on 18-inch alloy wheels in 5-arm star style on 235/60 R18 tyres, the Q5 S line comes with 19-inch alloy wheels 5-spoke V-style, Graphite Gray diamond turned on 235/55 R19 tyres.
Two paint colors are new – district green and ultra blue. Eleven paint colors are standard: three solid - Ibis White, Brilliant Black, Quantum Grey (S line) – and eight metallic - District Green, Floret Silver, Glacier White, Mythos Black, Navarra Blue, Manhattan Grey, Matador Red, Ultra Blue (S line).
First-class spacious interior The 2.82 metres wide wheelbase turns the generous interior into a major attraction with the new Q5. That feeling of space is emphasised in the clean, elegant and beautifully finished interior design. The horizontal emphasis of the interior design conveys a feeling of expanse and lightness. The sculptural, elegant sweep of the trim inlay separates the lower and upper sections of the dashboard, with the focal point formed by the new freestanding MMI touch display with acoustic feedback. The center-tunnel console offers convenient storage space. The contour/ambient light incorporates an array of lighting effects that perfectly enhance Audi’s characteristic workmanship. Manual binds at the rear door windows add to the privacy feel. Inlays in aluminium rhombus, and scuff plates with aluminium inserts in the front highlight the exquisite interior. Audi’s sliding rear bench plus with adjustable backrests opens up a luggage space of 580 to 1,580 liters. A variable folding floor mat comes as standard, as well as a power tailgate adding to the convenience.
Easy operations The Audi Q5 turns driving really enjoyable. Important information is available on the head-up display and in the Audi Virtual cockpit plus displays all dashboard data over a high-resolution 12.3-inch screen. The driver can choose from three different graphic layouts via the multifunction steering wheel. The central 10.1-inch MMI touch display menu structure with flat hierarchies makes it extremely easy to use. Behind the new control setup in the updated Audi Q5 is a new main unit – the third-generation Modular Infotainment Platform (MIB 3), which offers ten times the computing power of its predecessor, the MIB 2. For convenience, both power front seats are electrically operated, and the driver seat has a memory feature.
Power drive The Audi Q5 45 TFSI features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and generating 183kW, delivering a 0 to 100km/h time of 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 237km/h. The Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle system further contributes to the low fuel consumption. A belt-driven starter/generator (BSG) supplies the 12-volt vehicle electrical system, which incorporates a compact lithium-ion battery. The BSG recuperates braking energy and stores it in the battery. The MHEV system enables the Audi Q5 to coast with the engine off, and allows for start-stop mode at speeds below 22km/h.
The seven-speed S tronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive also contribute to efficiency.
quattro The Audi Q5 is equipped with quattro ultra. In normal operation, it sends all the power to the front wheels. If all-wheel drive becomes necessary e.g. in slippery conditions or during dynamic driving, two clutches connect the rear wheels to the driveline in fractions of a second – in many situations, this happens predictively. In terms of traction and performance, the system leaves nothing to be desired.
