Compact crossover athlete and good looking, the new Audi Q3 Sportback

  • Practical, sporty and elegant, the new Audi Q3 Sportback is a highly dynamic compact SUV coupé with an expressive design
  • Matrix LED, Audi virtual cockpit, Audi drive select and Bang & Olufsen as standard
  • „The first Audi compact crossover Coupé comes loaded with equipment and technology of upper market segments in Vietnam“ highlights Laurent Genet, Audi Vietnam official Importer General Director

With Audi Q3 Sportback, Audi is adding a compact SUV in coupé shape to its range. The first compact crossover of the Audi brand combines the strong presence and versatile everyday convenience of an SUV with the sporty elegance and agile handling of a Coupé.

Low roofline and muscular body design

The Audi Q3 Sportback stands for strength and precision to an equal degree, and reflects this in all design details. The black grille of the octagonal Singleframe is strongly three-dimensional in design, looking very sporty. The same applies for the trapezoidal air inlets and the expressive bumper with its flat blade. The coupé-like passenger cabin acts as a contrast to the distinctive attachments painted in contrasting colors to emphasize the SUV character. The low roofline gives way to flat D-pillars and ends in a roof edge spoiler making the Audi Q3 Sportback appearing much longer than the Audi Q3. The SUV-coupé is almost three centimeters flatter, and thus has a more muscular appearance. Above the wheels, strong contours draw attention to the quattro look. Many light and shadow effects arise on the plastic-formed rear. The low window, flanked by aero trims, and the sporty bumper, which takes up the look of the air inlets, emphasize the width of the Audi Q3 Sportback highlighted with the reversing lights running inwards in a tapered shape, just like the flat headlights. Matrix LED headlights are standard so that adaptive high beam intelligently illuminates the road as best suits the driving situation. LED light with dynamic turn at the front and rear accentuates the sporty character.

Sporty bias

Audi first developed its now famous ‘Sportback’ design in vehicles such as the Audi A5 and A7 Sportback model ranges, but the Q3 Sportback represents the first time the Sportback design – that sweeping coupé line racing down to the C-pillar – has been used in the Audi Q range. The result speaks for itself, in a vehicle that is both longer and slightly lower than its Q3 sibling, giving it an unmistakable presence on the road. Large wheel arches add to the impression of solidity as well as accommodating the 18-inch alloy wheels in 5-spoke Y-style, diamond-turned, and the S line exterior styling which will an alternative on Vietnam vehicles add further, subtle refinements to the styling that in true Audi style, enhance the overall impression without screaming for attention.

With the S line, the 18-inch alloy wheels design is 5-spoke V-style. The sporty bias is unmistakable, and despite the coupe-like design, this is still a luxury conveyance for up to five adults.

Versatile interior space

The Audi Q3 Sportback is 4.50 m long, 1.84 m wide and 1.56 m high; its 2.68 m wheelbase accommodates a large and highly variable interior. The rear seats offer space for three people. They can be moved 130 mm longitudinally; their backrests are divided into three sections, and their inclination can be adjusted in seven stages. Its 530 litres of luggage space (like the Q3), which can be increased up to 1,400 litres by manipulating the rear seats which can be moved fore and aft thanks to their split fold 40:20:40, giving it tremendous versatility for the active modern lifestyle. The loading floor can be adjusted to two levels, and the rear shelf is located beneath it. The standard tailgate also opens and closes electrically or with a foot motion as an option. The electrically adjustable front seats offer a sporty position and a high level of comfort. In addition, Alcantara surfaces on the instrument panel and the armrests emphasize the progressive design philosophy. In the dark, the standard contour/ambient lighting package sets lighting accents with its 30 selectable colors.

Efficient TFSI engine and S tronic

The Audi Q3 Sportback 35 TFSI is launched in Vietnam with a 1.4 liter petrol engine delivering 110 kW (150 metric hp) and 250 Nm of torque. The Audi Q3 Sportback 35 TFSI sprints up to 205 kilometers per hour. Working with the silky smooth six-speed S tronic transmission with power down through the front wheels, the new Audi Q3 Sportback is fuel efficient. The sprint from 0 to 100km/h takes only 9.3 seconds.

Sporty on any road

The Audi Q3 Sportback offers driving fun in the city, on long-haul routes, or on easy terrain as a dynamic compact crossover. It features progressive steering as standard, whose gear ratio becomes increasingly direct as the steering angle increases, and the comfort suspension. Audi drive select comes standard with six dynamic handling profiles. In addition to the engine and transmission set-up, this system also influences the electronically adjustable shock absorbers and the steering assistance. Hill descent control can offer support: it keeps the speed selected by the driver constant on an incline greater than 6%.

Digital displays and operation

The driver operates a digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch screen diagonal using the multifunction steering wheel. With MMI navigation plus, the displays appear in the Audi virtual cockpit offering many functions. A touch display measuring 10.1 inches is positioned in the center of the instrument panel. When a function is selected, it emits acoustic feedback. Just like in the brand’s models from higher segments, it is surrounded by wide, high-gloss black trim. Together with the air-conditioning control unit, the display is ergonomically tilted 10° towards the driver. The 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit plus comes with three selectable layouts, including a particularly dynamic view. The Audi Q3 Sportback comes with the 360 degree cameras offering assistance with parking and maneuvering. They show the direct surroundings of the SUV coupé on the MMI display, and the driver can choose from several perspectives.

Infotainment

Together with MMI navigation plus, the Audi smartphone interface in Q3 S-line ensures interconnectivity between the car and cell phones into the on-board infotainment system. The content of the smartphone appears in the MMI central display via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Bluetooth is standard and no cables are required if the top infotainment system is used with an iPhone. The Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with virtual 3D sound over 15 speakers delivers 680 watts to round off this comprehensive offer.

Eleven colors and S line style

Eleven body colors are available for the Audi Q3 Sportback. The black grid of the Singleframe makes the radiator grill look even stronger, while silver elements catch the eye at the front and rear. The new Audi Q3 Sportback comes with 18-inch alloy wheels in 5-spoke Y-style diamond turned design and standard bumpers. The S line style is fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels in 5-spoke V-style.The S line equipment includes the add-on parts in the color of the vehicle and dark gray; S line bumpers in full pant finish, air inlets and sill trims – the latter with aluminium inserts in illuminated scuff plates – are contoured even more strikingly.

Best Cars Award Winner 2020

Audi Q3 Sportback wins the “auto motor und sport” readers’ choice award against strong competition in its category “compact SUVs/cross-country vehicles” for the “Best Cars 2020” readers’ choice award.

“This victory for the Q3 Sportback is extraordinary confirmation for us, especially since we already won last year with its close technical relative, the Q3,” said Audi’s Head of Design, Marc Lichte, at the award ceremony, which took place on February 6th 2020 in Stuttgart. “Its coupé-like roof line makes the Q3 Sportback appear considerably longer and thus makes it an elegant brother of the Q3.”

The 44th edition of “Best Cars” readers’ choice award 2020, which “auto motor und sport” is one of the most important competitions in the European automotive industry. More than 100,000 readers selected their favorites from 387 models in eleven categories. Each reader had two votes per category: one for the overall winner and one for the best imported model. The “compact SUVs/cross-country vehicles” category was the biggest category with 63 models, along with the large SUV category (also 63 models). The Audi Q3 Sportback won with 11.5 percent of the votes. Other Audi models on the podium: The A1 (“compact cars” category) won second place, and the A5 Sportback (“medium-size class”), the A8 (“luxury class”), and the e-tron (“large SUVs/cross-country vehicles”) each came third.

The new Audi Q3 Sportback is produced in Europe at Audi Hungaria factory in Győr, using only green power (geothermal since 2012, bio-gas certificates and since 2020 solar panels). This is the largest solar panel roof installation in Europe and the second carbon-neural Audi plant in the world. From geothermal heating in 2012, to solar power. After Audi Brussels, which was converted in 2018, the second Audi factory in Europe has now achieved this aim. Committed to sustainability, Audi‘s „Mission:Zero“ focuses on decarbonization, water utilization, resource efficiency and biodiversity in Audi factories.

Like all Audi models in Vietnam, the new Audi Q3 Sportback benefits from three years of warranty with unlimited mileage during that period. Customer deliveries will start at Audi Ho Chi Minh City, Audi Danang and Audi Hanoi in May 2020.

„Sporty and elegant, the very first Audi Q3 Sportback offers an even more expressive alternative for buyers and will definitely appeal to all urban trend-setters in Vietnam“ concludes Tran Tan Trung, Audi Vietnam official Dealer General Director.

Impressive across the board, the Q3 Sportback good looking athelete offers myriad possibilities to those with a busy and active lifestyle, but without giving anything away in terms of its luxury appointment or presence. This is a vehicle that is as comfortable in the forecourt of a fine hotel as it is heading into the country for a remote weekend away – and everything in between. A perfect marriage of style and substance.
