Following the Q3 Sportback, Audi Vietnam now presents its second crossover utility vehicle (CUV): the all-new Audi Q5 Sportback. This coupé with dynamic lines addresses customers who appreciate in addition to expressive design and technical innovation a sporty character for every days use.
It was only a matter of time before the brand’s best-selling luxury SUV, the Audi Q5, received the ‘Sportback’ treatment, and from first glance it’s a perfect fit. Ready to deliver to customers in Vietnam Early December 2021, the all-new Audi Q5 Sportback will join the Audi Q3 Sportback launched Mid-2020, bringing that coupe-like styling to the Audi Q ranks for the first time. In fact you could reasonably argue that the Audi Q8 models comfortably fit in that group as well despite the absence of ‘Sportback’ from their model designations.
The arrival of the Q5 Sportback brings that irresistible combination of a luxury SUV that boasts both the everyday practicality and the style of a coupe to the mid-sized ranks. The Audi Q5 has been a tremendous success since it first made its appearance in 2009, and the addition of a Sportback model adds a whole new dimension to the model range.
The Audi Q5 Sportback exudes a powerful presence as is typical for the Q models from Audi. Large air inlets flank the octagonal Singleframe. The headlights with their distinctive daytime running light signature feature Matrix LED technology. The continuous, elegantly sweeping shoulder line emphasizes the wheels and with them the quattro all-wheel drive. The side sill trim on the doors imbues the CUV with stability and robustness. The greenhouse extends low over the body and begins its downward slope early so that the third side window tapers sharply to the rear. The starkly sloped rear window and the seemingly high-mounted rear bumper give the dynamic and powerful appearance. Aluminium roof rails plus distinctive S line finish - roof spoiler, Singleframe, side air inlets and bumpers, especially at rear – reinforce its Sportback character.
Matrix LED at front and rear comes with automatic high beam, separate daylight lights, dynamic turn signals and headlights washer. The Audi Q5 Sportback rides on 19-inch alloy wheels in 5-double-spoke star style design fitted on 235/55 R19 tyres. Eleven standard paint colors include three solid - Ibis White, Brilliant Black, Quantum Grey and eight metallic - District Green, Floret Silver, Glacier White, Mythos Black, Navarra Blue, Manhattan Grey, Matador Red, Ultra Blue.
The underlying Q5 architecture is obvious, but the steeply sloping roofline changes the character of the vehicle completely. Measuring 4.69 metres in length, the Q5 Sportback is just seven millimetres longer than the Q5 SUV, while its height and width are the same. With a wheelbase measuring 2.82 metres, interior space is considerable, despite a slight reduction in rear storage as a result of the raked roofline, which nevertheless offers 510 litres of luggage space available with five adults on board, expandable to 570 litres if you take advantage of the rear seat bench plus, which is multi-adjustable and can be slid forward. Fold the rear seats fully forward and the luggage space increases to a cavernous 1,480 litres, which can be accessed with a simple foot gesture from the outside when used in conjunction with the convenience key. The storage and luggage compartment package and power tailgate round up the equipment.
With its horizontal lines, the interior is clean and airy. For the driver and passengers, the Q5 Sportback boasts all of the comfort and appointment of the Q5, with a beautifully finished interior, boasting all of the latest automotive technology and leading-edge connectivity. All five seats are in Dinamica Frequenz microfiber /leather combination, and the front Sports seats feature embossed S logos. The driver seats pedals and footrest are in stainless steel. The multicolor Ambient lighting package plus shapes the interior where inlays are in Matt Brushed Aluminium, and scuff plates with aluminium inserts in front illuminated with S logo. Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound System with 3D sound delivers 755 watts over 19 loudspeakers. Refined aero-acoustics make for an exceptionally quiet interior. Thanks to its intelligent material mix, the Q5 Sportback has one of the lightest body shells in the segment, while the cd figure of 0.30 is among the best-in-class.
The third-generation modular infotainment system or MIB 3 includes the Audi virtual cockpit plus with 12.3-inch display to the MMI Navigation plus system with 10.1-inch touch screen. Technology has been seamlessly integrated for ease of use and to compliment the interior design. The driver controls many functions with the multi-function wheel, while the head-up display further adds to the convenience and safety. The Bluetooth, Audi Smart Phone interface, plus Bang & Olufsen Premium sound system with 3D sound, the Q5 Sportback offers all of the luxury customers have come to know in the Audi Q5.
Safety and driver assistance systems range from electromechanical power steering, cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, regenerative braking energy recovery, comfort key, Start Stop system to Audi Park Assist with 360 cameras, to name just a few.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in the Audi Q5 45 TFSI Sportback generates 183 kW (245 PS) and 370Nm of torque, sprinting from 0 to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 236 km/h. The 12V Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle system increases the fuel efficiency. Its belt-driven starter-alternator (BSG) can recover energy when decelerating and store it in a compact lithium-ion battery. This allows coasting with the engine off, while the start-stop range already begins at a speed of 22 km/h.
The seven-speed S tronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive also contribute to efficiency. quattro drive with ultra technology provides the power transmission. In normal driving conditions, it directs the torque exclusively to the front wheels. The moment all-wheel drive is required, two clutches instantly activate the rear axle, even predictively in many situations. A mechanical center differential distributes 40 percent of the torque to the front axle, and 60 percent to the rear and, when necessary, directs the majority of it to the axle with better traction. In terms of traction and performance, the system leaves nothing to be desired. Since the original quattro started at the Geneva Motor Show in 1980, Audi has produced over 10.5 million Audi quattro cars, 45 percent of all Audi models built in 2019 featured quattro.
The well-balanced running gear is a great strength of the Audi Q5 Sportback, as lightweight multilink suspension at front and rear boasts sharp handling and subtle ride. Then there’s the Audi drive select handling system with its seven profiles, while the hill descent assistant provides support on steep inclines, further enhancing its versatility.
In addition, the new Audi Care optional packages ensure peace of mind for three years, delivering regular maintenance over 50,000 kilometers (Deluxe), or Premium (90,000 kilometers). Skilled Audi technicians, with access in real time to Audi systems - in Audi Hanoi, Audi Danang and Audi Ho Chi Minh City - maintain the Audi Q5 Sportback in tip top condition, servicing with genuine Audi parts in full compliance with the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance: engine oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel delivery filter, seal ring, spark plugs and brake fluid. The new Audi Care maintenance packages apply to all new Audi cars – Q2, Q3, Q3 Sportback, A4, Q5, Q5 Sportback, A6, A7 Sportback, Q7 and Q8 – as per the conditions which apply in Vietnam.
While the Audi Q5 has always enjoyed a strong, loyal following, since 2009, the new Audi Q5 Sportback promises to win even more enthusiasts when it arrives in Vietnam, adding its striking design to an already compelling package. The Audi Q5 Sportback rolls off the assembly line at the San José Chiapa Audi plant in Mexico.
The first deliveries to customers in Vietnam should start in December 2021.
“The Audi Q5 Sportback will undoubtedly continue the success story of the Q5 SUV and Quattro in Vietnam, bringing that distinctive Audi styling element to the mid-sized luxury ranks for the first time” concludes Tran Tan Trung, Audi Vietnam official Dealer General Director.
